The fastest racehorses
live like princes in castles

And like to surround
themselves with a court.

They shy away as soon as they see a mouse
and become panicky about everything

As if there was a long forgotten
but tragic incident
that so unfoundedly
determined her life.

They eat only the best of the best
and sleep at night in the finest, freshest hay.

They sound heavy as they dream of the worst at night:
The loss of their title to an even faster horse.

At some point, their courage to face life is ignited
by a lack of what is commonplace for everyone else.

They dream of a herd of wild horses by the river.
One smaller than the other.

All as happy as sparrows on the roof.
For none of the wild horses looks back and none asks:

How could one ever live also only ansatzweise differently.
Unless, one is born so.
